Northwestern will have three captains for the upcoming basketball season.

Seniors Tre Demps and Alex Olah and junior Sanjay Lumpkin will serve as the team's captains, head coach Chris Collins announced Wednesday.

"We're honored to have Tre, Alex and Sanjay be our captains this year," Collins said in the team's announcement. "They have done a tremendous job with leadership on and off the court. They'll serve as excellent leaders for our team going into the season."

Demps and Olah were the Wildcats' two leading scorers a year ago, with Demps averaging 12.5 points per game and Olah averaging 11.7 points per game. Olah also led the team in rebounding with 6.9 boards per game and blocks with 1.8 swats per game.

Olah ranked second in the Big Ten in blocks and fifth in the Big Ten in rebounding. Demps was 20th in the conference in scoring.

Lumpkin has spent his first two seasons at Northwestern as a defensive specialist, typically guarding the opposing team's best player.

After a stretch of heartbreaking losses in the middle of conference play last season, the Cats are still looking for their first-ever NCAA tournament berth. But there's plenty of reasons to be optimistic, including tons of momentum Collins is building on the recruiting trail.
