One of Rutgers' biggest additions ahead of the 2017 season has suffered a torn ACL.

Ahmir Mitchell, a four-star wide receiver who transferred to Rutgers from Michigan just before the start of last season, tore his ACL during spring practice, the team announced Tuesday.

According to NJ.com, the Scarlet Knights are hopeful that Mitchell, who was expected to be one of the team's starting wideouts, will be able to play during the 2017 campaign despite the typically lengthy recovery time needed for this type of injury.

Mitchell initially picked Michigan and headed to Ann Arbor to play for Jim Harbaugh last year, but he was suspended during the preseason and opted to transfer back to his home state of New Jersey before the season even started.

Rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals last year, Mitchell was the No. 139 prospect in the country and one of the Class of 2016's top 30 receivers.
