Northwestern is competing with the big boys.
Four-star quarterback recruit Travis Waller — the nation’s fifth-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2015, per Rivals — tweeted out his top four schools Monday night: Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Northwestern.
It might be odd to see the Wildcats in this company on the recruiting trail, especially for a player not from Illinois (Waller is from Anaheim, Calif.), but the Cats certainly have to be pleased they’re still in the running to land one of next year’s top prizes.

According to Rivals, Waller has expanded his list from just Northwestern and Alabama to include the other two schools. Ohio State hasn’t even offered a scholarship to the 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback.
Northwestern has already landed a pair of four-star commitments for the Class of 2015 in Andrew and David Dowell, a set of athletically gifted brothers from Ohio. Andrew is a running back, while David is listed as an athlete. Add that to the four four-star recruits Pat Fitzgerald recruited this season, and Northwestern is starting to make some recruiting noise. Landing Waller would only add to that increasing volume.
Rivals also indicated that Waller has yet to visit Northwestern but plans to do so soon. Waller tweeted that he will make his decision on July 1.
