Nikolai Khabibulin will start instead of Corey Crawford, and several prospects will get one more look as the Chicago Blackhawks close their preseason schedule against the Washington Capitals tonight.

Crawford was supposed to start tonight, but coach Joel Quenneville said the goaltender is out with some lower-body stiffness. Crawford is still scheduled to start the Blackhawks’ regular-season opener against the Capitals on Tuesday night.

Antti Raanta was recalled from Rockford to serve as backup goaltender tonight.

Andrew Shaw (lower body) will also return to the lineup. Shaw hasn’t played a preseason game for a while, but he’s been skating/practicing consistently. He’s not anticipating any issues tonight.

“It might take a shift or two to get back, but I’m pretty confident I’ll be ready,” he said. “I just needed a little extra rest.”

Defenseman Mike Kostka is in the lineup tonight, as are forwards Brandon Pirri, Joakim Nordstrom, Jimmy Hayes and Ben Smith. Forward Jeremy Morin and defenseman Ryan Stanton are not expected to play.
