You might remember Stephen Walkom from Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinal matchup between the Blackhawks and Red Wings.
If not, let’s refresh your memory.
Walkom was the referee who awarded Kyle Quincey and Brandon Saad matching minors with the infamously controversial call that took away Niklas Hjalmarsson’s nearly game-winning goal.
Although the Blackhawks went on to win in overtime with a goal by Brent Seabrook, the call left a bitter taste in the mouths of many Hawks fans.

Well, Stephen Walkom has just recently been announced senior vice president and director of officiating for the NHL.
This position will take Walkom off the ice as a referee. He will return to the NHL headquarters to resume his role as the league’s officiating overseer.
