After shutting out the Red Wings on Tuesday, the Blackhawks suffered a 4-3 shootout loss to the Penguins, but Thursday's outcome didn't hurt the team's confidence moving forward.
"It’s one game. One game’s not going to make this team," forward Ben Smith said. "As I said Tuesday, it’s a step forward. It’s tough to lose in the shootout, but (goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin) played unbelievable in there today. Move forward now, see who’s playing tomorrow."
Now the Blackhawks are returning to a television near you as they hit the road for the first time this preseason.
Although no official roster reports have been released yet, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is expected to play in tonight's matchup. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Jonathan Toews may play in a game this weekend.
Both teams will face off in one additional preseason matchup on Sept. 28 before opening the regular season in Chicago.
On Jan. 11, the Blackhawks will head back east for their second and final regular-season matchup against the Capitals.
