Content, but not satisfied. That's the approach for Andrew Shaw as he enters his third season in a Blackhawks uniform.
Even though Shaw has become a quick fan-favorite with his intensity and fearlessness, he still wants to stay hungry and continue to improve. "I still think I need to prove myself every shift," Shaw said. His goal? Remaining a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. After all, who wouldn't want to play on the same ice with Toews, Kane, Hossa and Sharp?
"There's always going to be a chip on my shoulder," Shaw stated. "There is always someone to prove wrong or someone to prove right. I still don't think I'm established here yet. I have to work every shift."
His aggressive style of play excited the fans but often earned him a seat in the penalty box. "Sometimes, I need the choke collar on and 'Q' pulls me back," Shaw said. "That's what he's there for. He lets me know what I can do and what I can't do. That has helped me a lot with my game." Shaw knows his aggressive style got him to this point and he intends to continue playing the same way.
He also had a message for the new rookies on the squad. "Do what got you here," Shaw recommended. "Don't let anyone take it from you. Just work hard."
