Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta didn't know what he wanted for his helmet decorations for the upcoming Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
But when he got the mask that was a tribute to former Blackhawks' goalie Ed Belfour, he knew that was the right one for him.
"When I got the mask, I was really, really excited about that," Raanta said. "I didn't know how everyone was going to react. I didn't know how Eddie is reacting about this. I hope he's taking it as a respect to him."
The Finnish goalie hopes to debut the mask with the large hawk on it for the Stadium Series game but noted it could make its public appearance sooner if needed.
"We'll see who's going to play that game (Stadium Series)," Raanta said. "But hopefully I'll get some playing time somewhere so I can use it in some other game also."
Raanta admitted he was always a Belfour fan growing up in Finland. While he couldn't guarantee that he will play like Belfour when he puts the mask on, Raanta said there could be some magic with the newly crafted gem.
"We'll see when the game is on," Raanta said. "When you put this mask on, I don't know what happens."
