On Friday the Blackhawks announced plans to more than double the size of their team store on Michigan Avenue, expanding it into a two-story flagship. The project is being taken on by Chipman Design Architecture and will be officially unveiled in fall 2014.
“This is an incredible opportunity to engage with our fans on the Magnificent Mile, a world class location on one of the most iconic streets in the world,” said Blackhawks President & CEO John McDonough in a statement released by the team. “We envision the Blackhawks Store will become a must-visit destination for locals, tourists and fans alike.”
“We are very excited for this unique opportunity to work with the Chicago Blackhawks and Wirtz Realty on designing a premier retail facility on Michigan Avenue for our defending Stanley Cup champions,” said Daniel Tessarolo, Principal and COO of Chipman Design Architecture.
The Landmark 333 North Michigan Avenue Building — where the Blackhawks store is located — sits at the corner of Michigan and Wacker, just a block north of Millennium Park. The $48 million renovations the building is about to see will create a new multi-level retail parcel, renovated office suites and restoration to the building's historic features.
