Patrick Kane was injured in the second period during the Blackhawks' 4-0 win over the St. Louis Blues and could miss the remainder of the regular season.
Blues forward Brenden Morrow was falling near the boards and Kane's left ankle appeared to get caught under Morrow. Kane got off the ice under his own power but soon went to the locker room.
After the game Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he expects Kane to miss three weeks with the leg injury.
“It was a freak play; it can happen. And we’ve been fortunate most of the year so we’ll deal with it,” said Quenneville, who recorded his 700th head coaching victory on Wednesday. “Certainly he’s a special player. We’ll have to work our way through it with what he brings to our team.”
The Blackhawks were already without Brandon Saad, who suffered an upper-body injury against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
