While Corey Crawford’s injury was deemed not that serious by coach Joel Quenneville on Sunday, the team nevertheless recalled a backup goaltender for their quick trip to Dallas.

The Chicago Blackhawks recalled goaltender Kent Simpson from the Rockford IceHogs on Monday, as they prepared for Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Stars. The 21-year-old has a 6-7-0 record and 3.38 goals-against average in 15 games with the IceHogs this season.

To clear a roster spot for Simpson, the Blackhawks placed forward Bryan Bickell on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 19. On Sunday morning, Bickell skated for the first time since sustaining his left-leg injury against the Avalanche on Nov. 19.

Simpson’s recall comes a day after Crawford suffered what looked to be a groin injury against the Florida Panthers. After the game, Quenneville said, “I haven’t talked to the doc but I don’t think it’s too serious,” regarding Crawford’s injury. Still, it would’ve been unlikely Crawford would travel to Dallas.

Antti Raanta should get his second consecutive appearance tomorrow night. Raanta stopped 29 of 31 in relief of Crawford, garnering his third NHL victory. In five appearances, Raanta is 3-0-1 with a 2.16 GAA and .922 save percentage.
