After defeating the Boston Bruins 3-2 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Chicago Blackhawks have brought the coveted trophy back to Chicago for the second time in just four years. And to top off this already exhilarating feat, the Blackhawks have made the regional cover of Sports Illustrated set to hit newsstands Wednesday. This cover is the 13th appearance made by a Chicago Blackhawk.
“Nobody could have drawn up anything as perfect as this series, a marquee matchup between two Original Six franchises that turned out to be one of the most competitive and compelling finals in recent memory,” said SI writer Brian Cazeneuve, regarding an NHL season that started out rocky but transpired into a series finale for the ages.
The Blackhawks had an astonishing season in 2013, but a comeback win in a deciding Game 6 is perhaps one for the record books according to Hawks forward Patrick Sharp, “It’s only fitting that two of the oldest teams would give people a series for the history books.”
What a way to end the season.
