Canucks head coach John Tortorella didn't go into the details of Ryan Stanton's injury, but did say the former Blackhawks defenseman will be out for quite a bit of time.
“We’re talking weeks,” Tortorella told reporters in advance of Thursday night’s game with the Dallas Stars. “I’ll leave it at that.”
Stanton suffered a left-ankle injury in the Canucks' loss to the Wild on Tuesday night after crashing into the boards. This is the second big hit Vancouver's blue line has faced, as Alex Edler continues to recover from a knee injury he suffered six weeks ago.
The Canucks picked Stanton up off of waivers after the 24-year-old defeseman was unable to crack a spot on the Blackhawks' roster following their training camp.
He was off to a good start in Vancouver prior to his his injury, recording one goal and 10 assists as well as a plus-4 rating in 31 games played this season.
