St. Louis Blues captain David Backes was sidelined during Game 3 with an injury after suffering from a big hit delivered by Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook in Game 2 of their opening-round playoff series. Whether Backes will be back on the ice on Wednesday remains to be seen.
Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock addressed the media on Tuesday afternoon and said there is no update on Backes; he will have more information on Wednesday prior to the start in Game 4.
Filling Backes' void is no easy task for the Blues, but forward Alexander Steen said the team is preparing as best they can, should they be without their captain moving forward.
"Obviously Backs is missed, it's hard, you don't replace a player like that," he said. "But at the same time we have to move forward and we have guys capable of putting the puck in the net. We have guys that scored a lot of goals during the course of the season. Last game we just didn't finish. We have to finish."
