After playing 14 seasons in the NHL, former Blackhawks center John Madden is taking a new position in Florida.
On Friday, the Panthers named Madden and 15-year NHL veteran Brian Skrudland assistant coaches with new interim coach Peter Horachek.
The announcement was made after the team relieved head coach Kevin Dineen and assistant coaches Gord Murphy and Craig Ramsay of their duties earlier Friday morning.
Madden signed a one-year deal with the Blackhawks in 2009 and was a member of the 2010 Cup-winning team. He recorded 10 goals and 13 assists throughout 79 regular-season games played.
He played his final NHL season with the Panthers in 2011-12 where he was joined by former Blackhawks teammates and fellow 2010 champs Kris Versteeg, Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecky.
