Former Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery has a tattoo that says ‘Anger is a gift.’ Friday night at the Wells Fargo Center, Emery gave a gift than kept on giving.

During the Washington Capitals 7-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, Emery joined in the melee that accumulated 114 penalty minutes.

Starting goaltender Steve Mason was pulled in favor of Emery at the conclusion of the second period after giving up three goals. As the game began to get further out of hand for the Flyers, Emery challenged Washington goaltender Braden Holtby to a fight. Holtby wanted no part of it as Emery landed several blows before the officials broke it up.

Emery received a game-high 29 penalty minutes. He was charged with leaving the goal crease, instigating a fight, and fighting. Emery was also ejected from the game.

The reigning Jennings Trophy co-winner also received the third star of the game.
