Marian Hossa is out for tonight’s game, and Nikolai Khabibulin was placed on injured reserve as the Chicago Blackhawks prepared to host the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night at the United Center.

Hossa was a late scratch with a lower-body injury on Saturday night, so he’ll miss his second consecutive game. Coach Joel Quenneville was hopeful, however, that Hossa will play Tuesday when the Blackhawks begin their circus trip in Denver.

Khabibulin’s situation isn’t quite as brief. The veteran goaltender suffered a lower-body injury late in the first period and did not return. When asked if Khabibulin could be out for days or weeks, Quenneville would just say, “it could be a bit.”

Corey Crawford will start Sunday night against the Sharks. He has either started or come in to relieve in 19 of the Blackhawks’ 21 games this season.

Meanwhile, Antti Raanta, who was recalled from the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday, arrived in Chicago late Sunday afternoon. He got his seventh victory Saturday night when Rockford beat San Antonio, 4-2. Quenneville wasn’t saying how many starts Raanta would get on the upcoming seven-game trip, but he will definitely be playing some on it.

“He played very well last night, coming off a big win, and he’s had some big games. I’m sure he’ll be excited about this chance,” Quenneville said. “Right from the outset, we had a pretty good feeling (about Raanta). We were fortunate to get him with the number of teams looking at him. Now it’s just the opportunity.”
