1. Power play needs to strike: The Blackhawks' power play has been in a bit of a funk since Patrick Kane went down with an injury three games ago. They went 2-for-3 in that contest against St. Louis and have been 0-for-9 in the two games since. No. 88 provided skill, vision, and a good attacker on entries — something that has been an issue these last two games. Maybe Teuvo Teravainen gets a look here and creates some magic. A potent power play means a lot to the Hawks. In their last four losses, Chicago has failed to score a power play goal.

2. Keep an eye on the Stars' “stars”: Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Valeri Nichushkin have everything it takes to be a dominating first line. Size, strength, speed and hockey smarts are just the tip of the iceberg with these three. Seguin is on a 9-game point streak, the longest current streak in the NHL, and he loves to shoot the puck. He and Benn have 30+ goals a piece, and the next closest is Erik Cole with 16. Keep this trio in check and you’ve increased your odds of winning.

3. Win it for Timmy: Our good friend Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald passed away earlier today. Tim started covering the Blackhawks back in 1988 — my first year playing with the Hawks. He wasn’t afraid to pose tough questions to Mike Keenan or anyone else for that matter. He wrote with fairness and heart. He’s won numerous awards and will be missed by the Blackhawks and all of his colleagues. Win this one for a truly nice guy who will be sorely missed by all of us.
