ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Patrick Kane, whose grandfather passed away earlier this week, will fly home to Buffalo on Wednesday night to attend his grandfather's funeral.

Coach Joel Quenneville, speaking after the Chicago Blackhawks' 2-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks, said Kane will head home and will miss the team's game against the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday. Kane found out about his grandfather Donald's death just before the Blackhawks' 5-3 victory over the Kings that night. He went on to record two goals and an assist, pointing to the sky after his first goal of the night to honor his grandfather.

Kane was very emotional following that game.

"It's just a tough day overall," Kane said late Monday night. "He was one of my great friends growing up. It's just a really sad day. It was important to get the win. But anytime you get someone taken away from you who’s so close to you, it means so much. It was tough to hear that right before the game."
