The Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks arrived in South Bend on Wednesday and were able to get a behind the scenes look at the legendary Notre Dame football facilities.
The team started training camp at the University of Notre Dame in the Compton Family Ice Arena on Thursday and will host public practices Saturday and Sunday, with a special student event Friday. Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s students can attend the Blackhawks’ practice for free on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
The notion of starting training camp at Notre Dame was originally Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman’s idea, who graduated from the university in 1995.
Notre Dame star nose guard Louis Nix seemed to enjoy having the Stanley Cup Champions in town.
"They were some cool guys, they talked to us afterwards,” Nix said. “Not a big hockey fan -- I might just jump on the bandwagon though."
