After putting up career numbers in 2012-13, Jonathan Toews has been nominated for Sportsnet's Canadian Athlete of the Year.

Toews averaged more than a point per game for the first time in his career last season (48 points in 47 regular-season games) and guided the Blackhawks to their second Stanley Cup in four years.

He was also awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy, given to the best defensive forward in the NHL, after spearheading one of the top-ranked penalty kill units.

Scott Morrison, Sportsnet's executive producer of hockey, made his case for the Chicago captain Thursday.
