PITTSBURGH — Jonathan Toews left Sunday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins with 6:30 remaining in the second period after taking a big hit by Brooks Orpik along the boards.
Toews was favoring his left elbow/shoulder as he skated off the ice. Toews stayed on the bench for a few moments before heading to the locker room.
The Blackhawks were down 2-1 at the time Toews was injured and ultimately fell to the Penguins, 4-1.
After the game head coach Joel Quenneville said he doesn't believe the injury was too serious.
"We're going to have to find out about some other guys," Quenneville said. "Maybe somebody steps up in the middle, but that's quality and quantity ice time down there. This time of year we want to make sure Johnny gets better and fresh. Whether he gets a break or not, we'll see. Certainly, we want to make sure our health and being rested going into the playoffs is a priority."
The Blackhawks are already without Patrick Kane, out the rest of the regular season with a left leg injury, and Bryan Bickell, who could return from his upper-body injury on Thursday against the Minnesota Wild.
