The Blackhawks might do something at the trade deadline, but don't expect Stan Bowman to knock your socks off.
CSNChicago.com Blackhawks Insider Tracey Myers recently previewed the team's activity as the upcoming trade deadline approaches, and she said that it's pretty unlikely that a big move is on the horizon.
"I know everybody wants to see a big move, everybody wants to see something crazy happen with their team. Well, if you're a Chicago Blackhawks fan and you're waiting for a big move at the trade deadline, you're going to be waiting a while," Myers said. "It's not going to happen."
What could happen though? Last season saw the acquisition of Michal Handzus at the deadline, and he helped the Blackhawks capture their second Stanley Cup in four years. Myers thinks something similar is more likely from the Hawks' front office than a big splash.
"When you look at this team, they don't need to make a big move, and I'll tell you right now I would be absolutely stunned if the Blackhawks do anything past a quick little simple move much like they did last year when they got Michal Handzus at the trade deadline," she said.
"The Blackhawks don't need a ton made to this roster. What they need is maybe another center. That's where they've always had a need to fill, that's where they've always been a little bit shallow in the pool. And so I look for the Blackhawks to do something along that line. It won't be fancy, it won't be anything stylish, but it'll be something that'll add depth to this team and that's what they absolutely need moving forward."
