Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel is two playoff wins away from a 25-pound salted nut roll, among other things.
Like the leaders of each fine city often do come playoff time, Emanuel and St. Paul mayor Chris Coleman decided to spice things up with a friendly wager during the Blackhawks-Wild series.
Here are the terms:
If Minnesota wins, Emanuel has to send over a barrel of Garrett's Popcorn, a six-pack of Half Acre beer and a jar of Chicago-style Giardiniera.
If the Blackhawks secure two more wins and close this series out, Coleman will send over a six-pack of Summit beer and a 25-pound salted nut roll.
(A good source of protein!)
"I am excited to take part in this wager with our friends from the north," Mayor Emanuel said in a statement. "I have full confidence that our mighty Blackhawks will be victorious in this series. In the unlikely case that things don't go our way, I am prepared to send a six-pack of our hoppy pride and joy: Half Acre Daisy Cutter, a barrel of Chicago's own Garrett's Popcorn, and some of our Chicago-style Giardinera that can spice up any casserole."
At the rate the Blackhawks are going, Mayor Emanuel might send a call out to the citizenry to help him finish the giant salted nut roll.
If that's not additional motivation for a win, we don't know what is.
