NEW ORLEANS — Kirk Hinrich will start in Tuesday night’s game against the Hornets, Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said prior to the team’s morning shootaround at New Orleans Arena.

After missing seven consecutive games due to an infection in his right elbow — the veteran point guard initially popped his bursa sac in a Jan. 7 home win over Cleveland — Hinrich will play in the Bulls’ first game after the All-Star break.

“Because it was the elbow, he was able to do a lot of conditioning and running almost immediately after they cleaned it out,” Thibodeau explained. “I think his conditioning is good and then he spent a lot of time after the break shooting and stuff like that, so I think he’s ready to go.”

Hinrich’s return means backup point guard Nate Robinson will return to his reserve role.

The Bulls, currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 30-22 record, own a 26-14 mark when Hinrich plays.
