It is presumably just coincidence but the Bears added a second tight end, from Temple, this offseason as Evan Rodriguez, also from Temple, was facing a DUI charge in Miami.
The Bears agreed to terms of a two-year contract with Steve Maneri, who played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011-2012 while Bears GM Phil Emery was the Kansas City director of college scouting. Maneri was signed out of college as an undrafted free agent in 2010 by the Houston Texans and spent most of that season on the New England Patriots practice squad.
Maneri started nine games during his time in Kansas City, with six receptions for 52 yards. In 2012 he started eight of 13 games played while helping block for Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles who was fourth in the NFL with 1,509 rushing yards.
Rodriguez was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence, according to a report by CBSMiami.
The Bears issued a statement that they were aware of reports and gathering information on the incident.
