It's been quite a busy week for general manager Phil Emery. For the seventh-straight day, Emery has signed a free agent. Tuesday night, the Bears announced they've agreed to terms with cornerback Kelvin Hayden on a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old Hayden started two games for Chicago in 2012, recording 40 tackles, one interception and three pass deflections. Hayden also tied for the league-lead with four fumble recoveries.
The former Illinois standout was selected 60th overall in the 2005 Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. In 101 career games played over eight years with the Colts, Falcons and Bears, Hayden has totaled 345 tackles, 12 interceptions, 44 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and three return touchdowns. Hayden also played a key role in in helping the Colts defeat the Bears in Super Bowl XLI.
With the addition, the Bears now have seven cornerbacks on their current roster.
