Offseasons are times for reshaping rosters. For the second straight year, the Bears also have reshaped a significant portion of the staff responsible for putting together those rosters.
Kevin Turks, a pro scout for the Bears since 2002 and assistant director of pro personnel for the last six years, has been promoted to director of pro personnel following the departure of Chris Ballard, who left to become Kansas City’s director of player personnel.
Former Bears cornerback Dwayne Joseph, who served as a pro scout and personnel staffer for the Bears and Miami Dolphins, was promoted to associate director of pro personnel.
Additionally, the Bears and general manager Phil Emery hired Ryan Kessenich, who served as a pro personnel assistant with the Washington Redskins before working with Emery on the Kansas City Chiefs’ staff. Kessenich will serve as a scout/player personnel.
Jay Muraco, who also worked with Emery in Kansas City as an area scout and has 17 years’ experience with NFL personnel departments, joins Emery’s staff in Chicago as East Coast scout. Muraco was college scouting coordinator for the New England Patriots during the Patriots’ Super Bowl years of the past decade.
Andre Odom, formerly in player development at Temple, has been hired as a personnel assistant. The Bears also promoted Breck Ackley to South Central Area Scout. Ackley will cover Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Iowa after spending last season as one of the team’s scouting assistants.
David Williams was promoted to Scout/Player Personnel after working as one of the team’s scouting assistants over the last year. Sam Summerville will work as the Bears Southeast Area scout, covering Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, after working as the team’s East Coast Scout since 2012.
