After nine seasons in charge of special teams in Chicago, Dave Toub's time with the Bears is at an end. On Thursday, he agreed to join the Kansas City Chiefs, where he will serve in the same capacity under new head coach Andy Reid.
Toub was fixture as special teams coordinator during the entirety of Lovie Smith's tenure as head coach, and was responsible for a unit that was both well-regarded and highly decorated.
Eight Pro Bowl trips were earned by Bears special teams players under Toub's stewardship, including three for KR Devin Hester (2006-07, and 2010), two for ST Brendon Ayanbadejo (2006-07), and one each for KR Johnny Knox (2009), ST Corey Graham (2011), and K Robbie Gould (2006). Toub is the only coordinator that Hester, the all-time NFL leader in kick return touchdowns (17), has ever had.
The Miami Dolphins interviewed Toub for their head coaching job after the 2011 season. After being passed over in favor of Joe Philbin, Toub signed a two-year contract extension with the Bears, but will depart in the wake of Lovie Smith's termination.
