Well before he gained national exposure as the starting quarterback for the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Cubs were aware of Colin Kaepernick's talent. They selected him in the 43rd round of the 2009 MLB amateur draft despite knowing his preference for football ahead of time.

But as Kaepernick revealed while appearing on CSN Chicago's SportsTalk Live on Thursday, the thought of taking the Cubs up on their offer never got much, or any, consideration.

"Never thought about picking up a baseball again. I was happy playing football," said Kaepernick.

Football is still Kaepernick's focus of the moment.

When asked about the disappointment of the 49ers' 34-31 Super Bowl loss to the Ravens on Feb. 3, he ended his thoughts on the game by saying "It didn't work out for us," before quickly following it up quickly with "But we'll be back."

Kaepernick said that his training for next season has already begun, and was quick to couch that work as part of his participation in Nike's Designed to Move initiative dedicated to addressing physical inactivity among children in the U.S.

"I'm trying to set a good example to these kids to go out and get active," said Kaepernick. "To hear the statistic that only one in three kids is active today was very surprising to me."

Kaepernick declined to take questions on the 49ers' recent trade of fellow quarterback Alex Smith (or on his tattoos), but he did give credit to his comfort level with his current offense for his recent success.

"I think the biggest difference is just being comfortable with the playbook," said Kaepernick. "Once you get that comfort level, you can go back to playing like you were in college and use your talent and tools."

That comfort level is too high for Kaepernick to consider taking the mound again.

"I just stick to throwing the pigskin around."
