Jelani Jenkins (LB, Florida)

6-1 | 243 lbs

2012 Stats:

27 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT

Projection:

3rd-4th round

Strengths:

High character guy. Has very good speed for a linebacker (4.54 40-yard dash). Can go sideline to sideline and does well chasing down runners. Strong in coverage with both tight ends and running backs. Has good blitzing ability.

Weaknesses:

Not ideal size for an outside linebacker at the next level. Must add strength. Needs to improve technique at point-of-attack, as he was frequently too high. Must learn how to shed blockers.

Fit for Bears:

Linebacker is an absolute need for the Bears heading into the draft. Jenkins has a lot of similar traits to former Bears linebacker Nick Roach and could be a good player to trade up for in the middle rounds if he's still available. Jenkins shouldn't be counted on to start immediately but could provide good depth and be a solid nickel linebacker.
