Jake Flannigan

Kevin Minter (MLB), LSU

6-0 | 246 lbs.

2012 Stats:

130 tackles, 15 TFL, 4 sacks, INT, FF

Projection:

2nd Round

Strengths:

Minter is able to quickly decipher where the run play will be heading and aggressively attacks in that direction. While not Hulk-like, still demonstrates quality upper body strength to not only fight through blocks, but also take down ball-carriers. Will often use his vision to go around blockers instead of through them. Shows good hand placement in the trenches along with quality instincts from play to play.

Weaknesses:

Good, but not great in certain pass coverage situations. Likely lacks the ability to move to the outside and be successful in all situations. Not a physical freak that demands attention in the middle of the field. Minter is not a speed guy and will often be beaten to the edge in pursuit of explosive backs.

Fit for the Bears:

Brian Urlacher has been the heart and soul of the defense for more than a decade, but it is a real possibility that his run in Chicago has come to an end. If the Bears are unable to reach an agreement with Urlacher, most insiders feel they will be forced to look to the draft for a long-term replacement. Minter could slip in the second round and may be available in the 45-52 range to give them a shot at landing him.
