Collin Klein (QB), Kansas State

6-5 | 226 lbs.

2012 Stats:

197/304, 2,641 yards, 16 TD, 9 INT; 207 rushes, 920 yards, 23 TD

Projection:

7th round

Strengths:

Is a physical, tough, strong runner who was difficult for Big 12 defenses to bring down. Is a decent passer on short and intermediate routes, generally makes good decisions with the football. Helped spearhead Kansas State's recent success, and by all accounts is a solid leader.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't have good throwing mechanics or footwork, struggles with accuracy and throwing the deep ball. Only worked out as a quarterback at the Scouting Combine; there are plenty who don't think he'll stick at that position. Has drawn comparisons to Tim Tebow, which doesn't do him much good at this point.

Fit for the Bears:

If he's willing to accept a shift from quarterback to running back or fullback, he'd be an intriguing late-round target given the power with which he runs. It'll take massive improvements for Klein to be worth a spot on a 53-man roster as a quarterback. While go-to goal line option Michael Bush is under contract for the next three years, given the injuries that plagued the Bears' backfield last year some depth couldn't hurt -- of course, assuming Klein is willing to give up being a quarterback.
