Hall of Fame battle coming?

Insiders told CSNChicago.com that Saturdays debate among the Hall of Fame electors was likely to be one of the most interesting and possibly most heated in some time. Besides the annual difficulty of deciding who among a cluster of greats was more great, this year has two contributors on the ballot and thats never easy.

One is former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, who transformed the 49ers into perennial Super Bowl contenders. And the other is Bill Parcells, who had 14 winning seasons in 19 years as a head coach and won two Super Bowls coaching the New York Giants.

Both coaches in this Super Bowl were Parcells' assistants, Tom Coughlin handling receivers and Bill Belichick handling multiple duties on defense.

Absolutely Parcells should be selected, said Belichick, who was Parcells defensive coordinator after coaching special teams and linebackers. Bill has done a tremendous job in his time in the National Football League, really taking five organizations from not a very high point to a very high point.

Bill is a tremendous coach, a great influence in my career and on me personally. I think hes had tremendous accomplishments in the game, not only his record but also his development of players and coaches and just the impact to the National Football League. I cant imagine him being left out of the group.
