After the Canucks prevailed in a shootout on Feb. 1, the Blackhawks seek to even the score tonight in record fashion against Vancouver at the United Center. Catch all the action on Comcast SportsNet, beginning at 7 with Blackhawks Pregame Live.
The Blackhawks' 3-2 victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings on Sunday opened another door for Chicago. With a 12-0-3 record, the Blackhawks are on the threshold of matching history set by the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks' record of surviving 16 games without a loss in regulation to start a season.
And there’s likely not a better team to earn that victory against than the Vancouver Canucks.
But as they prepare for tonight's matchup, the Hawks say they aren't worrying about how they fare against past teams.
“It’s always fun when things are going your way and you’re playing well to be able to match records or beat them or whatever,” captain Jonathan Toews said. “But the main thing is we’re having fun, we’re playing well and we have to keep improving off that.”
On Feb. 1, Chicago and Vancouver met for the first time during the shortened 2013 campaign. But that game didn't end as the Blackhawks hoped after Vancouver handed them their second shootout loss of the year. The Canucks (8-3-3) went on to win four consecutive games after that, but have dropped their last two to the Blues and Stars.
Daniel Sedin leads Vancouver with a total of 13 points and is followed closely behind by his brother, Henrik, who's totaled one goal and 11 assists this year. The Canucks could also receive an extra boost if forward David Booth makes his season debut after missing his team's first 14 contests due to a groin injury.
Tonight, the Blackhawks -- whether they admit it or not -- will be battling for a share of a record. The Canucks, on the other hand, will be fighting to break a two-game losing skid. These two teams will meet for one final time during the regular season in Vancouver on April 22.
