General manager Stan Bowman said at the Blackhawks' closing meetings that he wanted to re-sign Johnny Oduya soon. On Tuesday, the Hawks took care of that.

The Blackhawks signed the defenseman to a three-year extension, and also formally announced their signing forward Jamal Mayers to a one-year deal, on Tuesday. Financial terms were not released for Oduya; RDS hockey reported this past weekend that Mayers signed for 600,000 plus bonuses.

Oduya, who was acquired by the Blackhawks from Winnipeg at the trade deadline, had a goal and four assists in 18 regular-season games with his new team. He also had three assists in the Blackhawks' first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Coyotes. The defenseman just wrapped up his three-year deal that had a cap hit of 3.5 million per season.
