Blackhawks still evaluating Carcillo's injury

There wasn't a clear update on injured forward Daniel Carcillo on Wednesday morning. But from what was said, it doesn't sound so good.

Coach Joel Quenenville said the Blackhawks are still "talking about the options" regarding Carcillo, who appeared to suffer a left-knee injury against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. Carcillo went through testing on Tuesday and Quenneville said the team is still evaluating those results. When asked if that meant surgery for Carcillo, Quenneville said, "we'll see."

Carcillo is suspended indefinitely for his hit on Tom Gilbert in that game, but he may be out a while with that injury before he'd serve possible suspension time.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks put defenseman Steve Montador and forward Marcus Kruger on injured reserve, retroactive to their respective injury dates. Quenneville said Montador was feeling better, however, and could be back on the ice soon. Kruger was feeling better on Wednesday after having a tough day on Tuesday.

That opens the door for the Blackhawks' latest call-ups, defenseman Dylan Olsen and forward Andrew Shaw, who was added to the active roster this morning. Olsen, who was paired with veteran Sean O'Donnell at practice, had a strong summer camp and end of training camp. Shaw, who was on the top line with Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews, was also impressive this summer and fall.

Ray Emery will get the start against the Philadelphia Flyers, his former team, on Thursday.
