Marian Hossa was a late scratch with an upper-body injury on Wednesday night, minutes before the Blackhawks dropped the puck against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Hossa scratch was a surprise, and a late one. On earlier roster reports, approximately 20 minutes or so before the game, Hossa was listed among the starters. But that changed just before game time. Daniel Carcillo was moved to the top line with Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad to start the game. The announcement of Hossa's injury came about three minutes into the game.

Hossa played in his 1,000th game on Sunday and scored the game-winner in the Blackhawks' 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.
