Dj vu for Blackhawks against Red Wings

Share

Another 3-2 game. For the second time in six days, it went to the Red Wings, in overtime.

Todd Bertuzzi swatted a rebound in after Corey Crawford made a high initial stop for his second goal of the game to give Detroit the extra point with 38 seconds left in the extra session. The Hawks didn't get a single shot off in an overtime dominated by the Wings, just as they did the first, when they outshot the Hawks 21-4. The Hawks came on in the second to cut it to 2-1, then absolutely dominated the third, but didn't tie it until 52 seconds remained with an extra attacker following a timeout. Jonahan Toews won a draw to Duncan Keith, who then swung the puck over to Marian Hossa, whose shot from the point deflected off the skate of Nicklas Lidstrom.

Both Jimmy Howard and Crawford were outstanding. It's unfortunate that as angry as the Hawks were about some of the Wings' tactics and non-calls in last Sunday's finish, they came out and were dominated. Yes, they turned the tables late and got the extra point to remain ahead of the Wings in the Central, but they were fortunate to escape the first down just 2-0, and a stronger start leads one to wonder if they could've gotten that second point instead.

They'll try to regroup and bounce back Sunday night back home against a San Jose team that's been playing much better since their last trip in here last month, when the Hawks again needed to rally late to force overtime, before winning in the extra session.
