Boozer for Bargnani? Just a rumor

Chicago talk radio stations are buzzing with Thursday’s trade rumor involving the Bulls and Raptors. According to Mark Stein, the two teams had preliminary discussions about a deal that would send Carlos Boozer to Toronto for Andrea Bargnani, and other lower salaried players would be involved to make the salary cap math work.

But now it’s time for everyone to move on, because Bulls’ General Manager Gar Forman said “nothing is going on.”

Now, that’s not to say the Bulls wouldn’t be interested in making a trade that would get them below the $70 million luxury tax threshold for this season. But the team is pleased with the contributions they’re getting from Boozer this season, and they aren’t looking to make major changes with Derrick Rose set to return in the coming weeks.

The Bulls have done a great job to stay in the top half of the Eastern Conference without Rose and with several of their other top players battling through injuries. The biggest concern right now is another bout of plantar fasciitis for Joakim Noah, this time in his right foot. Noah labored through limited minutes in Denver Thursday night, and the Bulls just aren’t the same team without his energy and play-making skills.

Another big test awaits tonight against the Utah Jazz, who have won 11 of their last 12 home games, and have one of the NBA’s deepest frontlines in Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter. Make sure to tune in to Comcast SportsNet for the home team call with Neil Funk and Stacey King at 9:30. Kendall Gill joins me at 9 o’clock for McDonald’s Bulls Pre-Game Live. We hope to see you later tonight.
