MEMPHISAs expected, Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was a named one of 20 finalists for the 2012 USA Basketball Olympic team.

Hes just a marvelous player to coach because hes a sponge and such a team player, and that whole summer, he wanted to learn and did a great job for us, said USA Basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski, on a teleconference Saturday.

Derrick pays his dues, he continued, referring to Roses stint on USA Basketballs Select Team in 2008. Hes an incredible athlete, but an incredible guy and what a team player and a pleasure to coach.

Rose played under Krzyzewski, who coached his teammate, Luol Deng, at Duke, in the 2010 World Championships, helping the United States win a gold medal as the starting point guard, averaging 7.2 points and 3.2 assists per game.

I think its great, Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told CSNChicago.com last week. Obviously, hes very deserving. I think he handled the responsibility of playing on the 2010 USA World Championships team great last year. It helped him. He helped that team. So, Im thrilled for him. Hes earned it.
