According to CSNChicago's Patrick Mooney, the Cubs will decline Jeff Samardzija's 3 million option for 2012 but will re-sign him at a lower salary. The Cubs can cut his salary up to 20 percent.

Samardzija was not eligible for arbitration or free agency but remains under the Cubs control. He was given a five-year 10 million option in 2007 with options for 2012 and 2013.
