Javier Baez is getting his first taste of the MLB life as the Cubs invited their top prospect to spring camp.

Baez, the ninth overall pick in the 2011 Draft, turned in a very good '12 season, going .294/.346/.543 with 16 homers and 24 steals. The 20-year-old shortstop finished last season in High-A Daytona and was playing in the Arizona Fall League before a thumb injury cut his time short.

Baez will join a slew of other Cubs top prospects in big-league camp, as Jorge Soler and pitcher Arodys Vizcaino, among others, will be in attendance.

The Cubs invited 21 other players as non-roster invitees to spring training, including Jaye Chapman, Casey Coleman, Brent Lillibridge, Darnell McDonald and Michael Brenly, son of former TV analyst Bob Brenly.

Pitchers Drew Carpenter, Dayan Diaz, Jensen Lewis, Barret Loux, Blake Parker, Zach Putnam, Nick Struck, Cory Wade, Hisanori Takahashi; catchers J.C. Boscan, Rafael Lopez; infielders Alberto Gonzalez, Edwin Maysonet, Brad Nelson; and outfielder Brian Bogusevic and Johermyn Chavez will also be in camp.
