Does DeJesus signing push Colvin out?

When Tyler Colvin slugged 20 home runs in just 358 at-bats two seasons ago, everybody was up in arms about the Cubs' top prospect finally finding his groove. It was assumed he would take over right field in 2011 for the near future.

But after an absolutely horrendous '11 season in which he hit just .150 and was sent down to the minors to attempt to regain his stroke, many questions surround Colvin.

Will he be in the team's future? Is he considered a bust yet? What does the new regime think of him?

And with David DeJesus' signing Wednesday, that made things quite a bit more complicated.

With Marlon Byrd in center and Alfonso Soriano in left, DeJesus projects as the starter in right field next season, all but pushing Colvin to the curb. Barring a trade (which is absolutely possible), Colvin doesn't figure to be a huge part of the 2012 plans at this stage.

CSNChicago's Cubs Insider Patrick Mooney says Colvin will have to fight for a job in spring training, a far fall from his powerful rookie season of 2010.

We signed DeJesus (to) round out our lineup, Hoyer said in Mooney's article. Tylergiven the year he hadneeds to bounce back and that comes in spring training. But to say hes out of our plans would be wrong.

So what does the future hold for the former first round pick? Maybe he'll just go to Boston for Theo compensation and put that issue to rest.
