PHILADELPHIA The Cubs are targeting next week as a potential return for Kerry Wood after he threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday at Citizens Bank Park.
Everything went really well, manager Dale Sveum said. He threw all his pitches, spun the ball really well.
The next step is seeing how Woods right shoulder responds to throwing on Saturday. If all goes well, the 34-year-old reliever could throw a simulated game on Monday.
Sveum ruled out a minor-league rehab assignment for Wood, who was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder fatigue retroactive to April 14.
Wood wont be activated this weekend. Sveum said the Cubs are shooting for Thursday, possibly by the end of the road trip in Cincinnati, to reinforce their bullpen.
