Rain postpones Cubs-Reds; no makeup set

CINCINNATIWith storms ripping through the area, the Reds and Cubs cancelled Tuesdays game at Great American Ball Park. No makeup date has been set yet.

Officials waited two hours and 13 minutes before finally making an announcement. The Cubs arent scheduled to return to Cincinnati until Aug. 17-19 for a three-game series.

The Cubs will push Jeff Samardzija (2-1, 4.13) back another day and have him start Wednesday night opposite Bronson Arroyo (1-0, 2.70).

Ryan Dempster (0-1, 1.33)whos been recovering from a strained right quadwill come off the disabled list on Thursday and face Reds right-hander Homer Bailey (1-2, 3.60).

Paul Maholm will be moved back in the rotation and start Friday against the Dodgers. The Cubs still hope to activate reliever Kerry Wood on Thursday and reinforce their bullpen.
