With the Cubs hovering around last place, many fans have already been clamoring for the organization to call up top prospects Anthony Rizzo and Brett Jackson.
Those critics only figure to get louder with the news Wednesday that the Cubs named Rizzo minor league player of the month for April. Right-handed reliever Frank Batista was named the organization's pitcher of the month.
Rizzo hit .384 in April with three doubles, seven homers and 23 RBI in just 22 games while posting a 1.093 OPS. He tore up Triple-A for the Padres last season (1.056 OPS), too, but the 22-year-old struggled horribly in his cup of coffee in the big leagues (.141 AVG, 46 Ks in 128 at-bats).
Batista, 23, did not surrender a run in 9.2 innings while pitching for both Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. He also notched five saves at Tennessee.
