Wood's return could impact Cubs bullpen

Amidst a bullpen shakeup, Kerry wood returned to the Cubs Friday, pitching one inning in the win over the Dodgers.

Wood went on the disabled list with shoulder fatigue and last appeared in a game on April 13.

He gave up two runs on a hit and a walk, but manager Dale Sveum was encouraged nonetheless.

"Woody was OK for the first time out," Sveum said. "He gave up a couple runs, but it really wasn't as bad as the numbers look. His velocity was good, but he still has to get the feel for the breaking ball a little better."

Wood's return to form would help a Cubs bullpen that is in desperate need of some stability after Carlos Marmol was removed from his spot as the closer following another poor outing Thursday in Cincinnati.
