A former quarterback for the Pitt Panthers, he has strength to drive the ball to all fields. Has plus raw power. Has good athleticism and has begun to improve throwing and receiving as well as game calling. Even with an average arm he threw out 33 percent of would-be base stealers last season.
Is aggressive at bat and chases too many pitches. Still is raw behind the plate and was older when he signed because of football. Despite his athleticism, he’s a slow runner.
He said it
On the similarities between quarterback and catcher: “There’s a lot. You’re the leader on the field. You kind of have the ball in your hand every play. You see the whole field and you’re kind in control and know what everybody’s doing. Everybody feeds off of you.”
