Notre Dame's crew of walk-ons will have itself a (son of) a rock star come August.
According to Irish Sports Daily's Christian McCollum, Jesse Bongiovi -- son of legendary rocker Jon Bon Jovi -- plans to walk on this fall with Notre Dame's football team. His father has been a Notre Dame fan since Charlie Weis was hired as coach, and was spotted on the field at Sun Life Stadium wearing a Notre Dame windbreaker and meeting Brian Kelly before the BCS Championship.
Bongiovi told Irish Sports Daily he expects to begin on the defensive side of the ball, but is open to playing wherever Notre Dame's coaching staff wants him. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound incoming freshman was a standout football and lacrosse player at Poly Prep Country Day high school in Brooklyn.
Notre Dame's roster features a few sons of athletes, including Corey Robinson (son of Spurs Hall of Fame center David Robinson), DaVaris Daniels (son of former NFL defensive end Phillip Daniels), Austin Collinsworth (son of former NFL wide receiver and broadcaster Cris Collinsworth) and Torii Hunter Jr. (son of current Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter). While Bongiovi may not play as large a role as any of those players will during his career at Notre Dame, his father's celebrity status trumps them all.
